The announcement was NOT that I was no longer one of JWs, but that I was not one of JWs. So, many had thought I was for several years, but it was determined that I had never actually corrected qualified as one of JWs. Thus the announcement. I am treated as if I were disfellowshipped or disassociated, but I am actually still in the process of properly becoming one of JWs. Whether I can actually get to become one, I don't know. Even though I gained a lot from the article I cited from, my fight was with masturbation and pornography and inappropriate touching of others, which is a related set of issues to homosexuality, in that it involves sexual self-control. In my case, this set of issues amounted to an addiction, which I may have finally been given enough strength to overcome, now that some of my closest associates are also living one day at a time being free from various addictions, including gambling, smoking, and illicit drugs. Yes, I still believe it's the truth (=best/freest way of living). I am a 98-99% meeting attender re all 5 meetings, even since before the announcement.

Being raised in the environment of JWs, worshipping with them, even going in service and be baptized by JWs: none of them is the same as actually being one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Someone who is actually one of Jehovah's Witnesses continually goes through 5 steps: (1) taking in accurate knowledge of the Bible, (2) acquiring faith in that knowledge, (3) repenting for (feeling sorry about) actions and thoughts in a person's own past that do not harmonize with the Bible, (4) converting one's life-style to harmonize with the Bible, (5) dedicating one's life to maintaining harmony with the Bible. Personally, I have had trouble with steps 4 & 5. So, an announcement was made to the Congregation in December 2005 that I was not one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The original sin
by onacruse inthis is a question i've had for a long time.. according to the biblical account, adam and eve's sin was to eat fruit from the forbidden tree.. now, ordinarily, when we get caught doing something "wrong," we try to hide the "offending" member (the child tries to hide his hand that has the 'stolen' cookie; we hurriedly try to pull our pants back on when mom walks in unexpectedly while we're masturbating, etc.)..
so, if the "sin" of adam and eve was eating a forbidden fruit, then why wasn't their first impulse to hide their hands?
or to wipe off their mouths?

Wrong choices. Do I hear understatement, anyone? Yes, indeed. We all live in the fallen state of sin and death due to the choices of the 3 villains: Satan, Eve, and Adam.
If only the account of Genesis 2 & 3 were simply a myth after all. Then it could be the writings of "a tribal society" [an inferior culture] to that in which we live.
Alas, it is not. We live the reality of the judicial sentences handed down in the latter half of Genesis 3. The Bible is explains one part of itself with others. It is an interconnected book, despite much of it not understood by the writers, even some 1600 years from first till last. It is intricate as any of Jehovah's creations is. Yet it is understandable with correct methods. It is still not yet fully comprehensible, because some of it is a full thousand years away from fulfillment. What an awesome book, or collection of books.

All of natural world around me speaks to the reality of the awesomeness of the Author of the Bible. It is he (Jehovah God) I have real faith in. Everyone else is relative.

So, we have something in common. I have never been a JW either, actually, though I still actively worship with them and have done so since 1989. And I have Methodism in my family history as well, athough that was before I was born, in my case. I respect each person's freedom to choose, rightly or wrongly.
Your description of Dave sounds like every relationship I know; each introduces themselves to each other gradually, and often the first impressions aren't the same as later ones. The 2 of you are the ones with the marriage still in place. The answers and explanations of how either of you feel or are thinking are matters of great importance to both of you, and only incidentally to any of the bit-part cast members in this on-going public-forum discussion. I have said in a previous post, that I expect this thread to be "taken indoors", out of the public forum at some point(s). But, as long as you're game, I don't mind sharing my thoughts, based on my experience, for whatever value you each may find. It's another free opinion. I can more easily stand "ad hominem" attacks on myself, than I can on others, especially those who may not be able/willing defend themselves here on this forum.

I am not a JW either, actually, with all due respect. From what I see, Dave and Amanda have been solving their life the way they choose, and aren't about to stop now. I'm not suggesting they should. I'm just share the questions and info that seem helpful to me, since they seem to be interested in positive, empathetic conversation about what they may decide and about what to make of various elements in each others' lives for far.
By the way, when I put one of my signature lines, namely "— I am Q. Bert, after all", I am generally referring to the punctuation that I use in my handle. I am not Q-bert, or QBert, or Q*Bert [the arcade character]. And, "after all" can refer to the fact that I bounce around, to cover all the bases, just like Q*Bert [in the video game I used to play many moons ago.]. And it can mean that I'm just being myself, which is also true.

You seem to have had some positive thoughts about JWs, and now the thoughts seem not so positive. Explain.
How does this relate to your marriage vows?, which bring the Creator into at least this relationship, since Jehovah was to found the institution of marriage, with the yoking of Adam and Eve.
Is being in love with him a requirement for being with him? Is it a requirement you have for anyone else you would live at the same address with?

The truth certainly is very liberating. Researching the Sumerians and their myths tells me about Sumerians and those who have written about them.
The Bible is quite clear as to how Moses became acquainted with Jehovah, the real God of Truth. I'll stick with that, thank you.

nefarious is your terminology, not mine. I go to authorized sources of information, and draw my conclusions accordingly, engaging all my personal higher powers of reasoning. It works for me.
